A couple of weeks ago, while in town shooting for one of my clients, I made this image in a shop window. It has fascinated me how standing in a doorway and looking at the street through the lit window gives a different perspective,. The mannequins who stare out seem to inhabit a world of their own. At times it seems to me their reality is somehow more concrete than the surreality of life on the street. (more…)

Kia ora tatou:dorktower277.jpg

I will be publishing a newsletter in the next week, which will go to those on my mailing list only. It will provide advance notice of my workshops for 2008, including New Zealand and the United States. There will also be one or 2 articles which will not appear on this website.

If you are not on my mailing list ( that is, you haven’t received one for at least 2 months), you can sign up here or here.

What about a photo treat for your bloggers on this auspicious occasion? Post us something hitherto upseen please.

From time to time, if I am lucky, or looking the other way, an image will come to me, that takes quite some time to unpack, that rattles me. Here is one such.

For the last week or two, I have been very busy doing commissions for a local body, so my apologies if I have not been as prolific here as I might have been. Cup and Show week is huge in Christchurch; a week of festivals, parades and celebration. I have probably shot around 10-15 000 images. Any spare time has been involved with editing (it usually takes me around 30-40% of my shooting time to edit a shoot out to final).

As part of the commissions I was sent down to the SOL Square precinct in Christchurch to photograph the Big Brunch ( it never was, and never happened). While I was sitting there, waiting, and waiting, and waiting… I saw this. I made the image.

In the past, I have tried to unpack my images.

This one has me beat. I know it talks to me but, at the moment, my radio is off-channel. I am excited by it, I know it is somehow seminal, that a door has opened, but I am no further ahead than that..

It gets me, hence the new category…..

So I open it up for discussion.

I would love to have feedback.

Tell me what you see..Abuse is good , too.

With thanks

gilded-00704.jpgKai ora tatou:

When I first opened that website as you see it, back in January, about 17 000 people had visited my blogs.

Since then the number of visitors has grown , and finally, today, it happened.

The 100 000th ( try saying that without lisping!) hit.

My deepest thanks to those of you who visit and comment,my deepest thanks to those of you who come from time to time and have a look around. My next milestone is 1 000 000 visitors .

I try to be relevant and useful, so any feedback is always welcome and appreciated. Hell, I will even publish abuse!

Tim Finn

None of us knows what will happen each morning when we step out the door. The wind may be bringing us good fortune. Or it may not. So there is an excitement in every day, anticipation, a hope. It is the beginning of a new journey and the continuation of an old one. While we may think we know where it will end, there is no certainty, there are no guarantees. Maybe that is why we like travelling so much. Maybe that is why train journeys are so popular. (more…)
